Seriously Kurt the whole of creation testifies the genius of God creative hand now by many persons especially on youtube he's called idiot a moron crazy and a less than intelligent human when i hear people discussing comfort and other fundamentalists it sounds as if they are discussing someone who should be able to do simple tasks but for some reason can't or won't this ias a gross misunderstanding the scientific method and skepticism are actually not common sense in fact they tend to run completely counter to how we evolved however with the right training and practice we can use these mental constructs as tools anyway to better understand the reality around us evolution has been called the binding theory of biology it's true without it a scientist would just be recording in the observing facts in nature with no way to make predictions or explane any of it the same is true for the apparent stupidity of comfort the purpose of this series is a way to help skeptics and scientist understand fundamentalists in a more logical and possibly less judgmental way even if what they say and believe is batshit insane one thing that must be addressed right off the bat is that evolution made us to be religious yes human curiosity and creativity are consider are more noble traits but we have quite a few mental forces that can suppress and even damage them it is the sad truth but when we're using skepticism in the scientific method we are not using a natural process but a mental constructs mathematics is a good example of a mental construct math is not to intuative, math is not instinct if there was everyone would use math as soon as we were born there are many primitive tribes that don't even have counting or numbers studies done on these people about the way the brain naturally works is to intuitively count up to a max of eight or nine and then count logarithmically up to get a rough estimate as to what they're dealing with in hunter-gatherer society this is all they need math and accuracy seems more like it would be a waste of time when survival as all that matters another example of this phenomena is the fact of the wheel was never invented in the americas other than one found on a child's toy in mexico no one thought to invented does that make them all morons not really eurasian people developed the wheel for the sole purpose of having animals pull their wares after that they realize the wheel could be used for many other purposes as well such as chariots and pullies the american peoples had no pack animals as potential beasts of burden in the americas such as the mammoth or the horse went extinct around the time the first man set foot on american soil and everything was done with manpowered labour the idea of the wheel seem like a waste of time if anyone even thought of it my girlfriend has done a lot of archaeological digs on prehistoric american sites and has taught me quite a bit about stone tools if you get the chance to look at the art of flat knapping the things that can be made from just rock including other wooden tools is mind-blowing it's easy to see why the idea of learning to smith metel would sound like such a waste of time and even more phenomenal example of this is that of the people of Tasmania the island of Tasmania was at one point connected with australia about ten thousand years ago yet island became separated from the continent along with the people living there wehn discovered by the british the people of Tasmania not only had no knowledge of or use of stone tools they also did not know how to start fires Because of this the british treated them as non humans as even the basis of savages at least had stone tools and could start fires these people were exterminated without mercy in the last full blooded tasmanian died in 1905 upon studying these people were hardly idiot however the technology to start fires had not occurred to them and their lifestyle didn't rely on it
The thing is evolution only favor traits of survival and not ones that allows to see the truth of reality or ones that help us get along with each other better so we have to create mental constructs such as math and the scientific process and skepticism as tools much like stone use the wheel and fire use to help us better see reality around us remember prejudice that is actually something that is ingrained into us xenophobia helped in survival and passages of specific genes among tribes is they couldhave a very tight-knit bond with their tribe but at the same time think of the tribe next door is a bunch of evil savages to be killed after much time and research we were able to construct a mental tool called tolerance which if used by everyone could allow us to live a lot happier together on this planet however it seems that to many of us, the cost of learning how to use the tools is more work than the payoff of using it many people would call these people lazy laziness however is also evolved into us in nature of the balance between conserving energy and using energy is a tricky game therefore it is a risk to try or learn something different that could cost you your life therefore laziness and fear of change is built into us as to ensure that we don't do more than we absolutely have to pass on our genes This is shown to be more prevalent when people are more destitute a western educated land landowner in afghanistan notice that his workers were carrying all their durt a bucket which took many trips and didn't carry very much he recommended instead they make a litter out of wood and carry more dirt for person using more muscles in center of balance getting them to try this however was like pulling teeth not because they didn't see the logic of it but because of it turned out not to work they would have wasted time in their destitute world time equals food and no food equals starvation this is why innovation and advancement of technology ran at a snails paces for millennia until framework was set to allow for less chance of death from risk of trying new things sadly in case of people like Ray, that laziness is working over time because of the fear of hell which in his mind is worse than starvation as well as other natural psychological mechanisms if he wasted time on our Satanic books and science that is less time he will spend on converting people and glorifying god the payment doesn't seem even close to being worth the effort the rest of this series will attempt continue to use evolutionary mechanisms like laziness to explain why intelligent people can just by our own nature believe wholeheartedly in unfounded and stupid claims i hope you will continue to watch
