Kobe Used to Memorize Jay Z’s Albums in 24 Hours

As we creep closer and closer to Kobe Bryant's final game, the Black Mamba'steammates, past and present are sharing stories about what it was like to play alongside oneof the greatest.

We all know Kobe has a long list of accomplishments:five NBA titles, named to 18 All-Star teams, earning 11 All-NBA First Team selections,landing himself on 9 NBA All-Defense First Teams and being the all-time highest-scoringplayer in Lakers' history.

But according to former teammates Brain Shaw and Devan George,who were asked to share their favorite Kobe memories for a piece in The Player's Tribune,Kobe's drive to be the best extended off the court as well.

According to Shaw: "I always tell people this story when theyask me about Kobe.

We would always freestyle on the back of the bus.

Whenever a new JayZ album came out, it was a big deal.

Guys would get it Day One and be rapping theirfavorite songs.

Maybe they knew the first few bars or the hook.

Well, Kobe would beon the back of the bus rapping every single line of every single song the day after thealbum came out.

I'm talking every lyric.

It was genuinely amazing.

Nobody could figureout how it was possible.

George backed up Shaw's claims and added: "It was incredible.

It didn't make sense.

I was always wondering, how in the world is this guy learning the lyrics so quickly? We'reall buying this stuff right when it comes out.

We're all listening to it.

I don't knowthe lyrics yet.

How do you? It just came out 24 hours ago, bro! That's when I realized,maybe this guys is a genius.

Either that, or he was getting Jay to send him advancecopies.

Either way, that's a little window into Kobe.

He was obsessed with greatness.

" While Kobe could have been getting the earlysneak before the albums' drop, it's just as likely to believe that he was up all nightstudying the lyrics and genuinely memorizing them just so he could one-up all of his teammates.

He will be missed.
