How to Memorize the Notes on Bass – 5 Ways

TAG

Hi guys! It's Bugra! I have been getting lots of questions about grooving, soloing and related questions but I think there is something very important memorizing the fingerboard right? the notes on the fingerboard it's something really useful 🙂 if you play bass guitar you have to know right 🙂 something we all must know to be able to play even a very very simple groove and as much as we memorize and we're comfortable about the fingerboard then as much as we're comfortable about the music we're playing so, today I came up with 5 ways to memorize and getting comfortable about the fingerboard and let's what's going to happen! for example if you play "C" the other "C" is just right under your little finger if you play "A" other "A" is just right here all the notes are like this E C D A C G The bass guitar is really really good about this because it's very symmetric and once you get the concept this octave thing you will be really comfortable about all other notes which when you need to play octave Play a very very simple groove and say the notes I know it's something not very fun but once you do it you will be very comfortable about memorizing the notes and fingerboard let's say we have a very simple groove D D D A C another one A A C D once you do it your brain is going to be like ok! I played this before and when you put your fingers on the fretboard you will be like ok now I know where is A C D I know I keep saying the same thing, I know it's kind of boring but because I really believe that it's very useful and helpful for many many reasons actually not just getting comfortable about the fingerboard but from many many perspectives for playing bass play Bach! yes J.

Bach! it's a kind of old music and it's not funky but it's something really really meaningful and valuable as a musician also So, you can start from playing the cello suites or there are partitas and there are more music Bach created personally I played the suites it really helped me to memorize so many notes for example you start playing from the first cello suite it's something like this Why you can memorize really easily Because you keep looking at the notes you keep trying to find the notes here in this kind of situation you will be like ok where is C D A D E you will be like ok this is E and D you will get comfortable by the time don't rush you have enough time to all these things Once you play a groove or a simple solo do it on another position for example we play this right D D D C D go to E E E E B D or go to B B B B F# A you can actually do transpose and it's going to give lots of notes on the fretboard I know it's kind of boring in the beginning but do transcription lots of transcription for example I'm really enjoying transcribing John Coltrane solos and you will have lots of notes from the fingerboard it's going to help you to memorize it so I always suggest the same thing don't actually play only the bass guitar but the music all those things are going to help you to play the music actually If you like the video please thumbs up!
